Consult Hyperion Interview Consult Hyperion was founded in 1985 as an independent consultancy, and remains privately held, wholly owned by employees. Since its formation it has continued to grow and develop. The company has its main office in Guildford, and has consultants based throughout the UK.

Our aim is to assist customers in reaching their goals in a timely and cost-effective way. We work in four main sectors:

  • Authentication including identity cards and biometrics.
  • Access including wireless and contactless devices.
  • Networks, such as digital TV, the Internet and mobile.
  • Transactions, founded on the concepts of digital money and digital identity
  • Applications ranging from CRM in a law firm to microfinance in Africa.

Neil McEvoy - Managing Director:

Neil McEvoy Neil is a founding Director of Consult Hyperion. He specialises in security for financial transactions and smart identity cards. He is the inventor of Consult Hyperion's Structured Risk Analysis method. Every working day, hundreds of billion of pounds of financial transactions are settled through secure networks that Neil has specified and procured. Millions of citizens carry smart identity cards that he has specified.

Neil's expertise has been provided to clients as diverse as the Bank of England , the Hong Kong government, American Express and the European Space Agency.

Prior to founding Consult Hyperion, Neil worked as a consultant specialising in the transmission of scientific data from spacecraft, network management and cryptography. He graduated in 1980 from University College, Oxford in chemistry.

Neil is the author of papers on several topics, most recently on information risk analysis, secure transactions and identity cards.

Dr Stuart Fiske - Financial Director:

Stuart Fiske Stuart is a founding Director of Consult Hyperion. Prior to 1986 he worked for an IT and management consultancy specialising in the development of transaction processing systems and fault-tolerant command and control software. Stuart obtained a BA Honours degree in Physics and a PhD from the University of York.

Stuart has almost a quarter of a century's experience in the analysis of business requirements and the specification and verification of payment systems. He provides and oversees specialist consultancy to clients focussing on the design and deployment of innovative identity and payment methods based around the use of secure cryptographic devices.

Stuart works with clients such as the global card schemes, banks and fixed and mobile telecommunications operators. His current interests include contact and contactless payment card, identity card and passport schemes, and the specification and verification of vendor products which form part of those schemes.

Gloria Benson - Director:

Gloria Benson Gloria is a Director of Consult Hyperion. Prior to joining Consult Hyperion in 1987, Gloria worked for a range of companies dealing with business administration and human resource management. She graduated with a Management MBA from City University Business School.

Having 23 years experience in the IT industry Gloria brings a wealth of business and people knowledge to Consult Hyperion. Gloria also represents the social commitment of Consult Hyperion to the local and wider community.

Dave Birch - Director:

Dave Birch David G.W. Birch is a Director of Consult Hyperion, which he helped to found in 1986. Prior to this he spent several years working as a consultant in Europe, the Far East and North America. He graduated from the University of Southampton with a B.Sc (Hons.) in Physics. Described by The Independent newspaper in 2004 as a 'grade-A geek', and by the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation in 2005 as 'one of the most user-friendly of the UK's uber-techies', Dave is a member of the advisory board for European Business Review and UK correspondent to the Journal of Internet Banking and Commerce.

He has lectured to MBA level on the impact of new information and communications technologies, written for publications ranging from the Parliamentary IT Review to Financial World and is well-known for his more than 100 "Second Sight" columns in The Guardian's Online supplement. He is a media commentator on electronic business issues and has appeared on BBC television and radio, Sky and other channels around the world.

Michael Dick - Non-Executive Chairman:

Michael Dick Michael joined Consult Hyperion as a non-Executive Chairman in February 2004. Michael has a strong background in engineering and significant experience of successfully directing the sales and marketing activities of international IT organisations.

He brings to Consult Hyperion a wealth of relevant knowledge of experience, and has expertise in assembling very successful senior management teams.

Michael is currently Managing Director of Systems Ability Ltd, a consultancy firm that he set up in 1999. He is also non-executive chairman of Security Risk Management Ltd.
